This occupation is found in a wide range of settings within the animal care sector. Animal care and welfare managers may typically be employed by animal charities, pet care services, pet retailers, entertainment and education. They plan and manage the husbandry needs of domestic or wild animals in their care.

Assessment methods:

The apprentice will be observed carrying out tasks relating to their day-to-day role that allow them to demonstrate their practical skills and Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs).
This is followed by a series of 10 questions, which further test the apprentice’s depth of knowledge and understanding.
Duration: 3 hours
Location: The workplace
Graded: Fail / Pass / Distinction

This is a structured discussion between the apprentice and the independent assessor and provides the opportunity for the apprentice to demonstrate their Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs).
Duration: 75 minutes
Location: A suitable location, usually the employer’s premises.
Graded: Fail / Pass / Distinction
